161 West Norwalk Road

The original oak timbered structure was built in the mid 1750s by Samuel Johnson. A later addition was built using chestnut framing from an early 1800s home. The outbuildings include a carriage shed, a small studio, and a barn with stable, tack room, and shop, with an ample second story for hay. The property is bounded by stone walls on the north and south side. The south is woodland, the north is an open field, and west of the barn is a horse pasture. It is informally landscaped with century-old maple, cherry, fir, spruce, dogwood, pin oak, a state-registered arborvitae, and ash trees. Shrubbery around the house include andromeda, azalea, rhododendron, holly, and pachysandra.

This 2447 square foot pre-Revolutionary War home features ten rooms, four bedrooms, two and a half baths, wonderful screened-in porch, and walk-up attic. The huge barn sits majestically overlooking the lower property and house.
