Built in 1889, the house had several initial owners but was owned by Julia Ackerly starting in 1905. Her husband, George Henry Ackerly, ran the oyster sloop Viola L, named after George and Julia’s daughter. Their only child, Viola Louise, inherited the house and it was not sold by the family until after she died in 1965.
